Man Dies in Police Custody in Odisha; Family Alleges Assault Over Coconut Theft Case

Bhubaneswar, June 29 (UDN): A man allegedly died while in police custody in Odisha, triggering tension in the area as family members accused police personnel of assaulting him following his detention in connection with a suspected coconut theft case.

The deceased was reportedly picked up by police for questioning over allegations of coconut theft. According to family members, he was subjected to physical assault while in custody, leading to his deteriorating health and eventual death.

The incident sparked outrage among locals and the deceased’s relatives, who staged protests and demanded stringent action against the police personnel allegedly involved in the incident.

Family members alleged that the man was in good health when he was taken into custody and accused the police of using excessive force during interrogation. They have sought an impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
