Bhubaneswar, June 26 (UDN): The Odisha government has suspended four officials, including a former director, in connection with the alleged errors detected in school textbooks, amid mounting criticism over inaccuracies in educational materials distributed to students.
The action was taken following an inquiry into discrepancies and factual mistakes reported in textbooks prescribed for school students. The issue had sparked widespread concern among academicians, parents and educationists, who questioned the quality control mechanisms involved in the preparation and publication of the books.
Official sources said the suspended officials include a former director and other personnel associated with the textbook preparation and publication process. The government has reportedly initiated disciplinary proceedings against those found responsible for lapses in content verification and editorial oversight.
The move comes in the wake of allegations that several textbooks contained factual inaccuracies, typographical mistakes and other errors, raising concerns about their potential impact on students’ learning.
The state government had earlier ordered a detailed probe into the matter and assured corrective measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future. Authorities have also initiated steps to rectify the identified errors and ensure that revised and error-free educational materials reach students.
Education experts have welcomed the government’s action, stressing the need for a robust review mechanism to maintain academic standards and uphold the credibility of school education.
The School and Mass Education Department has reiterated its commitment to ensuring high-quality educational content and has promised stringent action against negligence in the textbook publication process.
