Odisha Has Created 26.39 Lakh ‘Lakhpati Didis’, Says Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida

Bhubaneswar, June 25 (UDN): Odisha has successfully created 26.39 lakh ‘Lakhpati Didis’, marking a significant milestone in women empowerment and rural economic transformation, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida said on Wednesday.

Highlighting the achievements of the state government in strengthening women’s self-help groups (SHGs), Parida said Odisha has emerged as a frontrunner in promoting financial independence among rural women through sustained livelihood initiatives and capacity-building programmes.

She stated that the creation of over 26 lakh ‘Lakhpati Didis’ reflects the growing economic empowerment of women associated with self-help groups across the state. The initiative has enabled lakhs of women to earn an annual income of Rs 1 lakh or more through various income-generating activities.

“The success of the Lakhpati Didi initiative is a testament to the determination and entrepreneurial spirit of women in Odisha. The government remains committed to further strengthening SHGs and creating additional livelihood opportunities for women,” Parida said.

The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that women-led enterprises have played a crucial role in enhancing household incomes, promoting rural entrepreneurship and contributing to the state’s overall economic development.

She further said that the government is focusing on skill development, market linkage, financial inclusion and enterprise promotion to ensure sustainable livelihoods for women associated with SHGs.

Officials noted that various flagship programmes and convergence initiatives have significantly contributed to transforming the socio-economic status of rural women, making them active participants in the state’s development journey.

The state government aims to further expand livelihood opportunities and support women entrepreneurs to achieve inclusive and sustainable growth across Odisha.
