Kendrapara, May 28 (BNP): Director General of Police Y.B. Khurania has placed Sandhyarani Jena, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Talchua Marine Police Station in Kendrapara district, under immediate suspension following allegations of custodial torture involving officials of the police station.

The suspension order came hours after a mother-son duo alleged that they were summoned to the Talchua Marine Police Station and subjected to third-degree torture and physical assault while in custody, triggering serious concerns over police conduct.

According to official sources, Jena has been suspended on charges of gross misconduct and dereliction of duty. A formal disciplinary proceeding is also being contemplated against her in connection with the allegations and the handling of the incident.

During the suspension period, the officer will remain under the disciplinary control of the Inspector General of Police, Central Range, Cuttack, as per official directions.

The Superintendent of Police, Kendrapara, has been instructed to serve the suspension order and submit draft charges along with supporting evidence for the proposed disciplinary proceedings.

Senior police officials said the matter is being treated with seriousness, and appropriate departmental action will follow based on findings and evidence gathered during the inquiry.
