Odisha: Concern Over Removal of 9.8 Lakh Names from Voter List

Bhubaneswar, April 21(BNP): Concern has intensified within the Odisha Home Department following the removal of approximately 9.8 lakh names from the state’s voter list ahead of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

The large-scale deletion has triggered political reactions, with opposition parties raising serious questions over the transparency and methodology adopted in revising the electoral rolls. Leaders from major political parties have expressed apprehension that genuine voters may have been excluded, potentially impacting electoral fairness.

Officials have indicated that such revisions are part of routine electoral roll management; however, the unusually high number of deletions this year has drawn scrutiny. Reports suggest that complaints have already been received regarding wrongful exclusion of eligible voters.

Political representatives have urged the authorities and the Election Commission to ensure a transparent verification process and to take immediate corrective measures. They have emphasized that no eligible citizen should be deprived of their voting rights due to administrative lapses.

The Home Department is closely monitoring the situation and is expected to coordinate with election authorities to address concerns and maintain public confidence in the electoral process.
